Since 2015, Gainesville has been offering a top-notch coding education for Gainesville residents. Our founder, Duncan Kabinu, recognized the need for an educational resource for those motivated and driven to learn to code. For the past three years, we have transformed eager learners into web and mobile developers. We have graduated dozens of students who work for tech companies in Gainesville or for themselves. If you’re thinking of taking a class, GDEV is right for you.
GDEV Teaches In-Demand Skills
In our web development class, we teach the MERN Stack—MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js—front end and back end skills every web developer needs. In our mobile development class, we teach Swift, an iOS programming language. Our students learn how to build dynamic and functional web and mobile applications.
This March, we are offering new launch courses in 3D modeling and WordPress. As the number one Content Management System, WordPress makes up almost 30% of the internet and lots of big name companies use them. Learning WordPress is valuable in this job market because the possibilities are versatile.
Gainesville provides a supportive and diverse environment in which to learn these skills.
In the words of Will Scheuster of Glee, “the best teachers don’t give you the answers, they just point the way and let you make your own choices, your own mistakes.” This is true of GDEV’s instructors, the best the world of coding education has to offer.
Our web development instructor, Justin Dennison, has been with GDEV since our 2015 beginning, and continues to provide dynamic instruction. Our students feel supported and challenged at the same time.
Florencia Bonarto will teach our 3D modeling class. Florencia obtained her BA in Digital Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida. Her goal is to emphasize diversity in video games and in the games industry as a 3D artist. She strives to create safe spaces and representation for minority groups, as well ignite player empathy, which enriches storytelling and player gaming experience.
And for our WordPress class, our instructor is Frank Corso. He’s developed online software products and SAAS apps, including Quiz And Survey Master which is used on over 20,000 websites. He teaches students how to research, plan, and execute a vision for a website, code a website from scratch using HTML/CSS/JS, and basic website marketing.
Job Placement And Tech Connections
GDEV’s courses are just the beginning of the journey. We help you with your next steps: find where to best put those skills to use and utilize resources that will help you continue to sharpen them.
As an integral member of Gainesville’s tech community, we have connections with tech companies in the area. In the past, we’ve helped students secure jobs at companies like Parisleaf, SharpSpring, and Fracture. Our students have the skills that these companies, and companies have open positions in which our students can flourish.
Immersive Program with Convenient Hours
At GDEV, we realize that not everyone is in a position to be able to quit their jobs and take coding classes. This why is why we chose to schedule classes from 6-9pm. This way, adults with 9-5s can attend while remaining financially secure. And with classes from Monday-Friday, we still provide the immersive, rigorous courses for our students.
Our new launch courses will veer from this somewhat. Because these are courses designed to get your feet wet, they meet 2 days a week for 10 weeks. WordPress class is Tuesday and Thursdays and 3D modeling will be Mondays and Wednesdays. Both classes will be from 6-9pm.
GDEV Is Perfect For Novice And Experienced Coders Alike
Unlike most other bootcamps GDEV does not require students to take any pre-coursework. Nor do we require prior knowledge of coding, programming, or web development before taking a class.
From those who have been programming since age 10, those who have dabbled, and those who are brand spanking new—all will find something from GDEV. Our classes are structured in such a way that we teach students how to learn. Web development is more than just knowing the programming language and syntax. A class with GDEV teaches you how to think about and solve problems, and build on their current knowledge base.
From our very innovation of being Gainesville’s premiere coding bootcamp to the skills we teach and hours of class, GDEV is the school to learn to coding.
